Who We Are

The mission of the Government Outreach program is to give students a chance to participate in government and to inspire them to think about their future roles in the community by meeting and hearing from leaders and public officials.

Government Outreach is an annual Summit for high school students in the Pennsylvania 5th Congressional District. The program hosts area juniors and seniors at three local colleges in order to provide them with the opportunity to be involved in the process of government and to discuss current and national issues with the event’s speakers. Panels of local business people and public officials also give students a chance to think about their future roles in the community. An advocate for education and greater community engagement, Congressman Glenn Thompson participates every year as a main speaker. This year, seminars will be hosted at Lock Haven University, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and Penn State Behrend. With no government funding, the funds for the program come from corporate sponsors who want to invest in the next generation’s leaders and local community.

What Teachers Are Saying

The program is excellent and a great benefit to the kids. The speakers were amazing.

Thank you for providing this wonderful experience for my students – it makes government more personal.

More and more students need to experience government in action and this program enables students to do just that.

This is an outstanding opportunity for high school students to interact with a congressman and understand policy debates and current issues.
